The Visit of GM Smbat Lputian, Founder and President of the Chess Academy of Armenia, to Goris State University
2025-11-18On November 18, Goris State University hosted Smbat Lputian, founder and director of the Chess Academy, First Vice President of the Chess Federation of Armenia, and Grandmaster.
The guest was welcomed by the Rector of Goris State University, Tigran Vandunts, who expressed gratitude for accepting the invitation and for his willingness to share his experience and knowledge.
The meeting began with a discussion on the topic “Contemporary Issues in Education and Chess in Schools.” Grandmaster Smbat Lputian presented the experiences of various countries regarding the introduction of chess as an academic subject in schools, its use as an effective educational tool, and its role in revealing and developing students’ individual abilities.
The event continued in a Q&A format, during which members of the local chess community had the opportunity to ask the Grandmaster questions related to increasing chess class hours in schools, teacher training, the importance of physical education, and several other educational issues.
The meeting was attended by chess-enthusiast faculty members, students, chess teachers, and individuals interested in the field.
